16/3: RELEASE of Woodpecker Letters Galleri Ping Pong, Malmö

Jens Henricson 11 mars 2014

RELEASE of Woodpecker Letters #1, 16/3, 17–19pm, Galleri Ping Pong, Malmö, Sweden.

Throughout the year we have directed our focus on the parallels between historical right-wing movements such as the one Gabriele D’Annunzio (1863-1938) represents – the protagonist of Johan Furåker’s exhibition – and similar contemporary tendencies in the Scandinavian societies.

With Furåker’s exhibition “A Poet in Need of an Empire” at Ping Pong Gallery, Malmö, as a starting point, we invited Maj Hasager, Oscar K, Henrik Arnstad and the exhibiting artist Johan Furåker to write a letter each to someone from someone relating to the overall thematics. Also, we are publishing two essays by Lisbeth Bonde and Göran Hägg, respectively, who are presenting Gabriele D’Annunzio in closer detail.

The letters, which are very different in character and form, will be read aloud in the gallery on 16 March 2014, 17–19 pm, while the fanzine Woodpecker Letters #1 will be printed in our temporary Risograph print shop run by Beast Studio.

Woodpecker Projects invite the audience to an evening of conversation, music, production and release of the fanzine. The event and the production of this fanzine would not have been possible without Malmö stad, Gert-Olle Göransson from Ping Pong Gallery, Robert Lindblom and Li Dahlgren from Beast Studio and Joakim Olsson who designed the edition.

Our mission is to produce, promote, document, and theorise new works exploring the intersection of word, image, paper and exhibition. We hope you will enjoy the result of our first edition of Woodpecker Letters.

Best regards,

The editors of Woodpecker Projects,
Ditte Ejlerskov, Jens Henricson and Jerker Knape
