Devrim Mavi, chefredaktör på facktidskriften Hotellrevyn, säger till Expressen.se: – Man har gått rakt in i en fredlig demonstration, jag har sett jättemånga skadade som folk burit ut från parken som körts i väg med ambulanser.

Mavi säger att polisen omringat parken och därefter använt tårgas och vattenkanoner mot människorna.

– Jag pratade med en sjuksköterska att de har inrättat en sjukvårdsmottagning vid parken. Polisen gick in där och tog ifrån dem gasmasker och skyddshjälmar. De angriper folk fysiskt för att de inte ska kunna skydda sig mot tårgasattacker, säger Devrim Mavi.

Dear Mr. Erdogan,
This is not the way you treat the citizens of the country you are prime minister of. You are not the padishah, these people are not your slaves, they are the citizens of Turkey. You are their public servant, put into office to follow their will. You seem to have gotten it backwards. In a Democracy, the will of the people is carried out by the government. In a dictatorship, the government imposes its will on the people. If you say you are democratically elected, then you have to listen to what the people want and not use martial law like police presence to injure your own citizens who are only demonstrating peacefully and lawfully. If instead of unleashing the police on them and taking this hard belligerent stance, you would have let them demonstrate, and then taken their views into account, that would have been GOOD DEMOCRACY! As it is, there are thousands of Turks injured, close to 10 innocent people dead, and parts of the glorious city called Istanbul look like a war zone. And the saddest thing is that the government of Turkey is responsible for this, not some outside enemy. Please rethink this, Mr. Erdogan, you are not the sultan. In a democracy, people have a right to assemble and protest peacefully, you cannot gas, pepper spray, or hose them for exercising their rights. You are not a king, you are a civil servant and as such you MUST serve the will of the people. These are the grandchildren of the sons and daughters of Ataturk that you are gassing and pepper spraying and hosing, they are you citizenry, you are here to serve them not attack them.
