The International Criminal Court - Challenges and Achievements

It is today ten years since the International Criminal Court, ICC, was established with notions of ending impunity for "unimaginable atrocities that deeply shock the conscience of humanity". This important work continues, but with only one conviction to date and cases against former and current Heads of States, the court is facing many challenges. Fatou Bensouda, has been the International Criminal Court's Prosecutor since June 2012, after having served as Deputy Prosecutor in charge of the Prosecutions Division of the ICC since 2004. Key note speaker, Fatou Bensouda, will focus on the achievements and future challenges of the court. Per Sjögren, Head of Department for International Law, Human Rights and Treaty Law at the Swedish Foreign Ministry will give the Swedish views on the court and Dr Pål Wrange, Associate Professor of Public International Law at Stockholm University will discuss legal aspects of the court's achievements.
